Amazing Goldendale Trip

Our trip to Goldendale was filled with surprises and a schedule that was packed with unexpected ad-hoc activities. The formal meeting had over 20 participants with representation from the Governor’s office, Goldendale City Council, Chamber of Commerce, PUD, Rep Gina Mosbrucker, Klickitat County and various private businesses. The mayor of Goldendale, Dave Jones presided over the meeting. We were briefed on the $2 billion hydroelectric pump storage project in Goldendale that is nearing approval and will stabilize electricity reserves for the State of Washington. After the meeting we got a tour of the museum with on one of the largest collections of sculptures from Rodin. We also viewed amazing royal artifacts from the famous Queen Maria of Romania who was born into the British royal family but refused to marry British royalty and chose to marry King Ferdinand of Romania. The trip included visits to three wineries. At the Maryhill Winery, we were enchanted with amazing and funny stories of the history of Goldendale by Mr Ross whose family has been instrumental in the development of not only Goldendale but the State of Washington over the past century. Frankly, Mr. Ross had us all laughing and enjoying our share of wine and munchies. We also enjoyed a wonderful Mexican dinner and then a star gazing experience at the observatory that included seeing a galaxy 30 million light years away. Luck was with us as the clouds separated just in time for us to experience incredible views of celestial bodies. We look forward to our next trip back to Goldendale.
